When you register as self-employed, the tax office asks for an address. It sounds like a small detail, but whatever you choose follows you onto every invoice and every public registry.
What a registered business address is
It is your business's official address, as declared to the tax authorities. It appears on every invoice you issue, and it is where all official correspondence gets sent.
Why many people do not want to register their home
The address becomes public
Your registered address is not private information. It appears on your invoices and often in publicly accessible registries. For anyone working with many clients, that means their home address ends up circulating freely.
Restrictions from your lease or building rules
If you rent your home, the lease often states explicitly that the property is for residential use only. And many building regulations prohibit using an apartment as a business address.
Keeping personal and professional separate
There is also a practical issue: every time you move house, you have to file an address change and notify clients, banks, and partners. With a fixed business address, moving home does not touch your business at all.
How renting a registered business address works
The process is the same as any commercial lease:
- You choose the address and the length of the contract.
- A standard lease agreement is signed in your name.
- The lease is officially uploaded to taxisnet.
- You use the address to register your business or update its address.
The price depends on the contract length: the longer the commitment, the lower the monthly cost — starting from €19 a month for a five-year contract.
A note of caution: an address is not an office
This is worth being honest about, since it is a common source of confusion. Renting a registered business address gives you a legal address. It does not give you an office to work from, a receptionist to answer your phone, or a room to meet clients in.
If you need those services, you are looking for an office-services provider — a different category of service, with a correspondingly different cost. We provide the address, and we say so plainly so you do not waste your time.
When it makes sense
Renting an address makes sense if you work from home or remotely, if you do not meet clients in person, and if you want to keep your home address off business documents. For someone who needs a physical office anyway, it is not the right solution.
