"What exactly is a loft?" is the question we get asked most often on the phone. The short answer: a smaller, cheaper storage space. The useful answer is a little further down.
What a loft is
It is an enclosed storage space on a raised level inside the facility. It has its own lock and exactly the same protection as our storage units: cameras, alarm, fire detection.
It comes in four sizes, starting from €25 a month.
When a loft is enough
- You have a few boxes of documents, books, or personal items.
- You want to store seasonal items: winter clothes, Christmas decorations, beach gear.
- You are storing sports equipment or suitcases you use twice a year.
- You need space for a small business archive.
When you need a full storage unit
- You have furniture — even just a little. A sofa or a table will not fit in a loft.
- You are clearing out an entire room or home.
- You need to walk inside and move around among your things.
- You are storing merchandise with frequent in-and-out access.
The simple rule: if everything you want to store fits in boxes, a loft is probably enough. If there is even one piece of furniture, you need a storage unit.
The cost, in practice
Over time, the difference adds up. A loft at €25 a month costs €300 a year. The smallest storage unit starts at €50, which is €600 a year. If a loft is genuinely all you need, choosing it saves you roughly a month's rent every year.
On the other hand, if you take a loft when you actually need a storage unit, you will end up paying for both. That is why it is worth a phone call before you decide.
